Airport Parking Costs Soar to £189 as Flight Delays Hit UK Travellers

Travellers at UK airports could face parking bills up to £189, with delays and cancellations making it worse. Taxis, lifts, or public transport offer cheaper options.

For many UK travellers heading to the airport, the biggest worry is usually the flight. Boarding passes. Security queues. Making it to the gate on time. That rush everyone knows.

But there’s another cost sitting quietly in the background — airport parking.

And honestly. It can be brutal.

New research from Confused.com shows some travellers are paying up to £189 for just four days of parking at certain UK airports. Four days. Nearly two hundred pounds. Most people don’t even realise it until they start booking.

Now imagine this.
You park the car. Grab your bags. Holiday mood already switched on. You rush through the terminal thinking the stressful part is the flight.

But then the delay hits. Maybe a cancellation.

Your flight changes. Your return gets pushed back. But your car? Still sitting there in the car park. The meter doesn’t pause. It just keeps ticking.

Spring holidays are approaching. Easter soon. Summer not far away either. Airports will be packed. And when airports get busy, disruptions tend to follow. Delays. Cancellations. The usual travel chaos.

Which means travellers sometimes return later than planned. A few hours. Sometimes a whole day.

That extra time in the car park? Not free. Not even close.

Across the UK, parking prices vary quite a bit. On average, a four-day stay costs about £93.90 for short-stay parking. Around £59 for long-stay. Meet-and-greet services come in roughly at £101. Short-stay sits closest to the terminal. Very convenient. Also very expensive, if we're being honest.

Many travellers simply don’t realise the clock doesn’t stop when their flight doesn’t leave.

A spokesperson from Confused.com stated:

"Many travellers don’t realise parking charges continue even when flights are disrupted, which can quickly push costs far higher than expected."

Because of this, some passengers are starting to rethink how they get to the airport. Taxi instead. A lift from family. Even public transport. Not always perfect. But sometimes far cheaper.

Planning the airport journey early can make a real difference. Sometimes more than £100 difference actually. A small decision before the trip… but it can save quite a lot once the holiday finally begins.
