Manchester Airport is revolutionizing its Drop-off and Pick-up zones by eliminating barriers, enhancing traffic flow, and introducing seamless ANPR-based payment options for drivers.

Manchester Airport is set to introduce a barrierless parking system at its Drop-off and Pick-up zones, aiming to streamline traffic flow and reduce waiting times for passengers and drivers. The new system, scheduled to launch on Wednesday, March 26, will be implemented progressively across terminals to ensure a smooth transition.
By eliminating physical barriers, the airport expects to enhance convenience for travelers while minimizing congestion. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology will be used to track vehicles as they enter and exit, similar to systems already in use at other UK airports, toll roads, and major transport hubs. This technology allows for a seamless experience, reducing the need for vehicles to stop, which can cause delays and traffic build-up.
A spokesperson for Manchester Airport stated:
"The change will significantly reduce waiting times, improve traffic flow, and enhance the overall passenger experience at Manchester Airport."
Drivers will be required to pay online or by phone before midnight on the day following their visit to avoid additional charges. For frequent visitors, including taxi operators, an auto-pay account system will be available to simplify payments. Notably, existing parking charges will remain unchanged.
To assist drivers with the transition, clear signage will be installed around the airport, informing them about the new system. This update reflects a growing trend among airports to modernize parking operations and improve overall efficiency.
