Overnight Trains to Gatwick Make Late-Night Airport Travel Easier and Cheaper

GWR is trialling overnight services between Reading and Gatwick Airport, helping passengers save on taxis and travel hassle-free during early mornings and late nights.

Late-night airport runs are messy. Proper stressful, honestly. You miss that last train and suddenly everything changes. Taxi apps open. Prices jump. You don’t really have a choice.

That’s exactly where things are shifting at Gatwick Airport.

This summer, Great Western Railway is testing overnight trains between Reading and Gatwick. Sounds simple. But it fixes a real issue. Right now, loads of passengers can’t even use trains because timings just don’t match flights. Early departures. Late landings. Big gap.

So what happens? People turn to taxis. Or drive. Costs go up. Roads get busier. Not ideal.

A GWR spokesperson stated:

"We’re very pleased to announce that through partnering with Gatwick Airport, this summer we will trial overnight services."

For travellers, this could mean less panic. No more rushing or overpaying at 3am. For airport staff, it’s even bigger. A proper way to get to work without depending on luck.

If you’re flying at odd hours, check the trains first. Might save you money. And time. And yeah, maybe a bit of stress too.
