Impact of EasyJet Strike on Easter 2025 Travel Plans for UK Holidaymakers

Flight cancellations and delays from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports are expected, affecting UK travelers during the busy Easter holiday period.

As Easter 2025 approaches, British holidaymakers are facing the possibility of significant travel disruptions due to a strike by easyJet flight attendants. The strike, set to occur on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM Central European Time (CET), coincides with one of the busiest travel periods of the year. The timing is particularly challenging for families, especially as Scottish schools are closed for a two-week holiday from April 7 to April 21.

The strike, led by several unions including the Italian Federation of Transport Workers (FILT), the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), and the Italian Union of Transport (UIL), will impact easyJet flights operating from Glasgow and Edinburgh airports. These airports serve as key hubs for easyJet's routes to Italy and other European destinations. Flights from Glasgow to cities such as Pisa, Milan, Naples, and Rome, along with those from Edinburgh to Milan, Catania, Venice, and Naples, are expected to be particularly affected, with cancellations or delays likely.

Anton Radchenko, an international lawyer and CEO of AirAdvisor, explains the implications of such strikes on airline operations:

"Flight attendants are crucial to an airline’s day-to-day operations. Not only do they ensure passengers have a safe and pleasant flight, but they also perform vital safety functions and demonstrate emergency procedures. When flight attendants are absent due to a strike, flights can be delayed or cancelled, creating a ripple effect that affects subsequent services."

The ripple effect mentioned by Radchenko could cause delays for other flights departing from the same airports, compounding the issues for travelers. This disruption is not just confined to outbound flights but could affect return journeys as well, especially as many holidaymakers will be traveling back after the Easter weekend.

For those affected by cancellations or delays, passengers have rights under the EU air passenger rights regulation. If a flight is delayed by over three hours or cancelled due to airline staff strikes, travelers may be entitled to compensation ranging from £220 to £520, depending on the distance of the flight. Passengers are encouraged to keep written evidence of any delays or cancellations to support a potential claim.

Passengers planning to fly with easyJet during this period should remain proactive in checking their flight status. EasyJet’s website and social media channels will provide updates on any changes to their flight schedules. In case of delays or cancellations, travelers are advised to contact easyJet customer service for assistance with alternative flights or compensation arrangements.
